Why didn’t i read it sooner? If I can go back in time then i’d probably give this book to my 13 years old self. It’s not just a book, its a collection of her memories, her thoughts, her experience and it shows how her thinking changes in this short period of 2 years.
Summary
In 1942, with the Nazis occupying Holland, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, the Franks and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annexe” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and surprisingly humorous, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short. My Thoughts
To tell the truth, i was quite afraid to read this, as i thought it would be little too depressing. Though i was incredibly sad knowing the fate of Anne and her family, but the diary was charming and witty in some ways. There was this line which kinda reminded of me in this current situation.“Must I keep thinking about those other people, whatever I’m doing? And if I want to laugh about something, should I stop myself quickly and feel ashamed that I’m cheerful? Ought I then to cry the whole day long”But have to tell staying home because of Covid is much more better than being confined to the top floor of a building with your family because of Nazis. My final thought after reading her diary was if only she had lived, what an extraordinary writer she would’ve been. Some Quotes i liked- Paper has more patience than people.
- Feelings can’t be ignored, nomatter how unjust or ungrateful they seen.
- If only I can be myself, I’ll be satisfied .
- You can be lonely even when you’re love by many people since you’re still not anybody’s one and only.
Summary
This book is an autobiography of Jhamak Ghimire where she expressed her struggle and hardship she faced to fulfill her basic desire to read and write. Jhamak is suffering from a disease named Cerebral palsy and she is born in a poor family where everyone wished physically disabled children were rather dead than suffering. Facing all those struggles, her determination and will power resulted her to become an aspiring author and to write this inspirational book of all time.
My Thoughts
What shall I say, her life is full of inspiration, courage and hope. Just imagine how many times she may have failed before being able to actually write with her feet. But she did it, i don’t know how can someone have such a strong will and power to push themselves forward EVERYTIME. The most used phrase in this book was “ma nirantar aagadi badhirahe”, it just shows how many times she was being criticized, dehumanized for her choices which was just to read and write.
As someone being born and raised in Nepali society, we find normalcy in showing mercy to differently able person but what we lack is genuine love. I appreciate her effort to educate Nepali society about treatment we’ve been giving to differently able person and i can also see something being positively changed on my mentality. I’m glad i choose to read this book and could see Jhamak’s life through her own eyes.
She has mentioned in some part “malai kunai kurako prashamsa garna malai tyo kura man parnu paryo, thik lagnu paryo ani matrai kasailai ma prashamsa ka dui-char sabda dina sakthiye” and i think she implemented this in her whole life even to the people who genuinely cared about her. This is the only ‘notsogood’ feeling that i felt after finishing this book. But have to say her self obsessing nature has made her who she is now today.
And also i didn’t want to rate this book because it will be like rating her life ๐
This is the first book of her that I’ve read and tbh i was drawn into this book by its cover ๐ After i read the back of the book, i was quite scared to start this cause I’ve zero knowledge about Greek mythology and historical fiction is not my usual genre. But the moment I started this I was hooked.
Madeline’s writing, her choice of words, her way of retelling the classic myths is so beautiful ❤️ Everything just glides through your eyes and the story flows like a poem. Not literally but her writing feels like a poem.
Summary
Circe is daughter of god Helios and she was exiled to an island alone due to her mistake. As every human, goddesses Circe is also flawed, so her character is so relatable to us and you’ll find yourself sympathizing with her every pain and difficulties. She is ‘immortal’ so in her journey she tries each and everything to occupy her loneliness and get over her mistakes. She deals with everything, love, friendship, anger, sadness, happiness and you’ll be able to see Circe being brave, bold, fearless as well as being worried, fearful and sad. But all this emotions and events are all relatable and the character development of Circe was extraordinary. My Thoughts
For me this book is mostly about discovering yourself and growing with your mistakes. Though Circe has done awful things but the writer has narrated it amazingly by portraying the atmosphere and her situation also by showing her personal growth which will make you feel sorry for her. If you’re into Greek mythology than you’ll be familiar with certain events that happens in the book but it’ll certainly make you reconsider the motivation and your thoughts towards that events.Coming at the ending, it was an incredible and inspiring ending ๐งก
Did I mention how much i loved Madeline’s writing? OMG give me more books please ๐๐ literally i’m giving +1 star for her writing.
